The
Port of Los Angeles is located
in the San Pedro Bay at the southernmost point of Los Angeles County, approximately
20 miles from downtown Los Angeles. Because of its proximity to the Pacific Ocean,
the San Pedro Bay has a long history of maritime activity and is home to the World
Cruise Center.
Pacific Cruise Ship Terminals, a sister
company of Metro Ports, is responsible for dispatching passengers
and processing baggage for visiting ships at the World Cruise Center. The facility
is capable of berthing three of the most modern cruise ships in the world simultaneously.
The facility has been upgraded and enlarged to provide comfortable and efficient
processing for discriminating passengers.
In 2003, U.S. Borax chose Metro to handle their vessels and bulk bag products operation
at the Port of Los Angeles. They felt that an operator with the bulk handling experience
of Metro can only add to their success. U.S. Borax operates one of the few private
bulk storage and loadout terminals on the West Coast. Its facility is over 100 years
old. But that doesn't stop it from constantly striving for improvement. Today, Metro
loads thousands of borates and ensures that no contamination is loaded along with
this unique product that is distributed for world consumption from Berth 165 in
the Port of Los Angeles.
